Casino Keno
Keno was the first casino game introduced in Nevada when the gambling laws were lifted in 1931.Since then it has remained one of the most popular casino games to be played. Many thousands of people flock to casinos around the world to play keno for real money.
Keno Simplicity
Keno played at land based casinos is probably one of the simplest games that can be played. All that is needed is a Keno ticket which can be purchased from a Keno booth situated somewhere in the casino or from one of the Keno runners that circulate the casino. The player then marks off his choices of up to fifteen numbers and waits patiently for the numbers to be called.
Keno booths are usually very centrally located within a casino. A traditional place for them has always been near the food halls of the casinos so that players can grab a quick game of Keno while they are waiting for their meal. Keno runners circulate the casino floors looking for potential players who may be waiting for a new game on one of the tables or are simply bored with what they are doing and looking for a change.
Black Marks the Spot
Nowadays, to play real money keno, the player has to mark off his numbers with a special black marker to ensure that that there is no cheating. Numbers are called every five to seven minutes so that if a player has got matching winning numbers on his ticket then he needs to claim his winnings immediately before the next round of numbers are called.
There are really two types of tickets that can be bought, there is the single play ticket where winnings have to be claimed immediately or there is a multiple ticket. A multiple ticket is a ticket that can be bought covering at least 10 games. The player can have the same numbers chosen for each of the ten games and at the end of them he can claim his winnings. The winnings are not void if he does not collect them after the first game.
The Keno Runner
Traditionally the Keno runner has always been a very attractive well presented female who would circulate the casino and tables looking for potential players. She would sell the cards to players who were waiting for other games or just fancied a quick game of Keno. Since there is very little effort involved in playing Keno, it has always been thought of as a side attraction. Casinos used the attractive females to give it more of push and make it a more accepted game. Keno runners also brought back the winnings to the players, so there was no need for the player to move. Keno has always been a comfortable game to play.
In some casinos special lounges are set up where players could write their Keno tickets in comfort, smoke a few cigars and wait for the results. Food and drink is also served in these lounges, making the game of Keno a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing experience.
Keno has and always will be a side game in land based casinos simply because it is a game of luck and there is not much skill involved. It has and will continue to provide a diversion for the heavier games that are played in the casinos but it always will remain a lucrative and fun game to play.
